For nearly two decades, Dean Z has performed thousands of shows for well over a million people around the globe, being named by Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE) as the world's greatest Elvis tribute artists in 2013.

American protest singer Phil Ochs appeared in concert in March 1970 at Carnegie Hall wearing a 1950s Elvis-style gold lamé suit, made for him by Presley's costumer Nudie Cohen. His performance may be considered the first significant Elvis impersonation.

Since Presley's death from a heart attack in 1977, however, Elvis impersonating has been a growth industry. From about 170 impersonators at the time of his passing, today there are an estimated 250,000 to 400,000 Elvis impersonators worldwide, from singers to skydivers.
